The mystery of a missing Slaithwaite post box has finally been solved.

The mystery of a missing Slaithwaite post box has finally been solved.

For that past two months residents in Slaithwaite have been puzzling over the disappearance of the post box from its usual position at the junction of Hill Top and Bank Top.

Residents received no notification of the planned removal from Royal Mail and no information concerning any plans to return the box.

Local Cllr Nicola Turner (Lib Dem, Colne Valley Ward) - who has been trying in vein to get Royal Mail to explain what is happening for the past eight weeks - has finally managed to get the bottom of the matter,

Cllr Turner (Lib Dem, Colne Valley Ward) says:

"Apparently the box is going to be re-located to the opposite side of the road at the bottom of Meal Hill Lane. Royal Mail is in the process of submitting a planning application to get it done but doesn't have a date set for its return. The way in which this has been handled has been very unsatisfactory. They should have at least put up a notice explaining what was going on. And getting through to an actual person at Royal Mail is extremely difficult. I hope that the box will be returned quickly as the old onewas in a very good position and well used by people as they make their way to the train platform and village shops. Its absence is an inconvenience to those living nearby."
