164 STRONG RESIDENTS' PETITION CALLS FOR TORIES TO IMPROVE DEWSBURY RESIDENTIAL ROADS4.27.00pm GMT Fri 12th Jan 2007
Cllr Dennis Hullock (Lib Dem, Dewsbury East) is presenting a petition at the meeting of Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council next Wednesday (17th January 2007) calling for the Tory Administration to allocate funds to improve Windsor Road and Chidswell Lane immediately. Signed by 164 local residents, the petition has been organised by Cllr Hullock following the Tory Administration's decision NOT TO TREAT EITHER WINDSOR ROAD OR CHIDSWELL LANE AS A PRIORITIES for repair when allocating £4m of spare council cash to pay for highways improvements last year. "Windsor Road and Chidswell Lane are in a terrible condition" says Cllr Hullock "The current administration has let the residents down by playing postcode politics with the £4m rollover money that was available to it from last years budget. All 69 councillors in Kirklees had agreed that the money should be spent doing up needy residential roads exactly like Windsor Road and Chidswell Lane but the Tories u-turned on that agreement" "Their behaviour has been disgraceful and this is a message to the Highways portfolio holder that the residents are unhappy about what the Tories have done and that they aren't in the mood to let it drop".
