REPORT ON ROAD MENDING MONIES IS PULLED FROM THE CABINET AGENDA AMID ALLEGATIONS OF POST CODE POLITICS8.15.17pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 13th Sep 2006
The Leader of Kirklees Council, Councillor Robert Light, has been forced to remove a report from a meeting of today's Cabinet as Liberal Democrat Leader Councillor Kath Pinnock accused the Conservative Cabinet of ignoring a decision of the full Council. The Council decision was to spend £4 million pounds on estate roads, pavements and street lighting most in need of repair. Today's report to Cabinet redirects the money to be spent on main roads in wards represented by Conservative Councillors. "The Council sets the budget and it has to be followed. It's clear to me that officers have removed this report because this has not been done. The Tories are playing 'Post Code Politics' and they have been caught out" says Councillor Kath Pinnock. "I have asked for a full investigation of this abuse and that the original decision of Council is followed. This money must be allocated to residents who live on streets that are most in need of repair not by the post code of their house."
