Cllr Rochelle Parchment (Lib Dem, Dalton Ward) has welcomed Huddersfield Area Committee's decision to invest £10,000 creating a second gated entrance to the Kilner Bank Nature Reserve. The committee agreed the investment at its meeting on 11 Jan 2012.
In the last 12 months there have been 35 secondary fires on Kilner Bank. Secondary fires are fires that start in outdoor areas usually on grassed areas or heath land.
Fire vehicles, on entering the site at the gated Wakefield Road entrance, have had to reverse off the site via the same route taking up to 45 minutes, a major cause for concern for the fire service as it ties up one of their response teams for a significant period of time. To remedy the situation, members of Huddersfield Area Committee have agreed that a second gated entrance should be created at the Bradley Mills Road end of the nature reserve site.
Cllr Parchment said:
"The time it has been taking for the fire service to get back off the Kilner Bank site has rightly been a major cause for concern. The plan to build a second gated entrance will resolve that issue completely and I am very pleased that the area committee members have agreed to make this investment."
