Cllr John Lawson and Cllr Andrew Pinnock are delighted that action has begun.
The demolition of the dangerous derelict former mill buildings on Westgate in Cleckheaton has begun at last.
Lib Dem councillors have been putting pressure on the landowners to get the site cleared and are delighted that action has begun.
"There have been many deliberate fires in the buildings over the last couple of years which have made the buildings very dangerous. Despite this, children and teenagers have been getting into the buildings and we were very concerned for their safety," says Cllr Andrew Pinnock. "I have contacted the landowner's agent several times to emphasise our concerns."
Cllr John Lawson added, "Local residents were also angry that our lovely town was spoiled by this derelict site on one of the main roads into Cleckheaton."
The site has been earmarked for housing and last year residents were shown an outline of a development on the site. Local councillors have been told that a full application for the site is expected this month. "It shows that despite the recession developers want to build in Cleckheaton because our town is such an attractive place to live," said Cllr Kath Pinnock.
