Cllr Kath Pinnock (Leader of the Lib Dem Councillors)
Kirklees Lib Dem Councillors have signed up to the 10:10 pledge which commits them to cutting their own carbon "footprint" by 10% in 2010.
The 10:10 project has been established to encourage everyone in the UK to make modest changes in their lives to cut carbon emissions. Together many small changes can, and will, contribute to the fight against climate change.
Individuals companies, councils, big brands and even premier league football teams are all getting on board with the drive for savings.
Cllr Kath Pinnock (Leader of the Lib Dem Councillors) said:
"The 10:10 project is trying to unite everyone in the UK behind one simple idea: by working together we can achieve a 10% cut in the UK's carbon emissions in 2010.
"People might think that making this sort of saving would require a big shift in lifestyle. But it's something we all can all easily achieve by making little changes to the things we do every day like making sure we turn off the lights, reducing the number of journeys we make by car and keeping an eye on the thermostats that control the heating. To some these little savings might seem almost not worth the bother but the idea is they will all add up to a big difference in the end"
"Kirklees Lib Dem Councillors have all signed up to 10:10. We are meeting the challenge in many different ways but we have all been trying to have one car free day a week. This is not possible for all of us as bus services are non-existent in some areas.
For me it has meant shifting some meetings around and making sure places I go to on one day a week are all reachable by foot but that's no bad thing and its means I've got some exercise into the bargain!"
"We urge everyone, including local firms and organisations to get signed up and find out what they can do to help the UK help the planet"
