Councillor Roger Battye (Lib Dem, Dalton Ward)
St Mary's Lane in Kirkheaton (from 21 School Lane to the junction with Shop Lane) is to be resurfaced by Kirklees Council on the 24th and 26th October in response to concerns about the road raised by local councillors.
Councillor Roger Battye (Lib Dem, Dalton Ward) and Councillor Rochelle Parchment (Lib Dem, Dalton Ward) have been calling for the council to improve the deteriorating road surface for a number of months and are delighted that workers are preparing to move on to site to carry out the work.
Cllr Roger Battye (Lib Dem, Dalton Ward) said:
"We're really pleased that the council has listened to our calls and prioritised this section of highway. It's a heavily used road with a dangerous bend and the broken up surface was posing a threat to drivers and pedestrians"
Cllr Rochelle Parchment said:
"Run off from Hill Side has undermined the road surface at the bottom of St Mary's Lane and with the winter coming this is the right time for the council to step on sought out the situation."
The work is to be carried out in two phases.
The section of road from 21 School Lane to 33 St. Mary's Lane will begin on Saturday 24 October at around 18.30 and will be completed by 23.30.
The remaining work from 33 St Mary's Lane to the junction with Shop Lane will commence on Monday 26 October 2009 and should be completed by Friday 30 October 2009. The works will be completed during off peak hours from 9:00am till 3:30pm
Vehicle owners are being asked to park their vehicles away from the highway while the work is being undertaken and home owners asked to cut back overhanging vegetation.
