Huddersfield South
Residents living in Houghtons Almshouses off Northgate in Almondbury are looking forward to brighter times after Huddersfield South area committee answered a call for new street lighting to be installed.
At its meeting on Tuesday 16th June, Area Committee Members gave the green light to the £5,000 of funding required for the works. Subject to the land owner's consent five new steel columns will be introduced replacing the three old concrete posts.
The work will make the area brighter for local residents - many of whom are elderly - discouraging anti-social behaviour and improving confidence after dark.
Cllr Linda Wilkinson said:
"The Area Committee is delegated funding by the council to respond to the needs of the community. Residents came forward with their concerns about poor street lighting at the Almshouses and we were happy to get the council to look at the possibility of improving the lighting provision. The plans are now in place and funding agreed. The community can approach the 3 Almondbury councillors at any time about issues causing them concern. The money is there for improving their area and we are always happy to listen to residents."
