Marsden residents and councillors are trying to stop a mobile phone mast being erected near their homes.
02 have submitted an application to the council proposing that a 12.5m communications mast be installed on the British Legion Site at Grange Cottages off Grange Street in Marsden.
Local people don't want the mast branding it a "monstrosity" that will spoil the appearance of the area and ruin the view from their homes.
Cllrs Nicola Turner and David Ridgway (Lib Dems, Colne Valley Ward) have arranged for the application to go before the Huddersfield Planning Committee on 16th April. The decision made there will then be used by officers when they make the final decision at after the consultation period ends on the 25th April. Cllrs Turner and Ridgway are asking that as many residents as possible attend the meeting or submit their objections to the council by the 25th (1).
Cllr Turner said:
"We've been approached by a lot of people since the application went in and are doing everything possible to make sure that people know what is going on and how they can object. Like residents, we feel that this simply isn't the right place for a mast; it just too close to people's homes and it would have a negative impact on the overall look of the area. We have submitted our objections to the council and encourage everyone living nearby to do the same. The more people object, the stronger the case against the mast".
Residents wanting to object can do so by writing to Kirklees Planning, Development Control West, Civic Centre III, Huddersfield or online using the council's website at http://www.kirklees.gov.uk/business/planning/yourviews.asp.
The planning application number which residents will need is 2009/53/90732/W1.
