New Mill Library
Outrage at attempt to mislead public -
Conservative Councillors have been accused of misleading the public over claims that they want to save New Mill Library.
Cllr Nicola Turner (Lib Dem in Colne Valley Ward) has spoken out against the claims made by Cllr Firth saying that the Tories's budget proposals - debated by council just over 7 days ago - did not make any reference to saving the Library from closure and that the library would still have closed if the Tories were still in charge of the Council.
Cllr Turner (Lib Dem, Colne Valley Ward) said:
"Cllr Firth and the Conservative Group are trying to mislead the public"
"The budget proposal they tabled for debate made no reference to putting money into keeping New Mill Library open. If their budget proposal had got voted through, New Mill Library would still have been closed. This is the sort of political smoke and mirrors that make the public so furious. As for his claims that no one had told him about the plan; the proposal to close the library was set out in the budget papers in black and white for everyone to see. To suggest that it was not common knowledge is ridiculous."
