Cllr Linda Wilkinson
A proposal to revamp the centre of Lepton village, the area known locally as 'The Square', is being put before residents in a local consultation.
Local Lib Dem Councillors worked to secure council funding for a project to improve the area. Now that plans have been drawn up it is time for local residents to have their say on the future of their village centre.
The proposals drawn up by the Council include plans to redesign the car park and add new features including paving, benches, lighting and litter bins.
Cllr Linda Wilkinson, one of the three Liberal Democrat Councillors representing Lepton, part of the Almondbury Ward, was keen to see money invested in the area.
Cllr Wilkinson said "For a long time local people in Lepton have been telling us they would like to see this part of their village centre improved. As local Councillors myself and my colleagues worked to get the council to earmark money for regeneration. We ensured that local businesses, the church and the doctor's were consulted about possible plans. We also made sure that residents will be properly consulted on the plans.
"The Council has now drawn up a proposal for the area. It is time for local people to have their say over the proposals. I think that Lepton would really benefit from this investment, but it is up to residents to have the final word as they know the area best.
"I hope the plans will be welcomed by residents so that the Council can give the green light to the scheme and get the investment Lepton deserves."
If the proposals for Lepton Village centre are supported by local people, the scheme could be approved formally in April 2009 and the scheme completed by June 2009.
