Cllr Ridgway, Liberal Democrat, Colne Valley Ward
Contractors instructed to sort out the road resurfacing works they carried out just over 12 months ago on New Hey Road have only had to re-lay deteriorating sections of the highway under their agreement with the council.
On returning to the site in the latter weeks of August, workers carried out a series of repairs at locations up and down the A road rather than resurfacing the whole highway.
Cllrs Nicola Turner and David Ridgway who represent Colne Valley Ward - which includes residents living in Outlane - are furious about the situation and have contacted Kirklees Highways Service to complain.
Cllr Turner says:
"It appears that the council can't make the contractors resurface the whole stretch of road, just the sections which have begun to crumble away. This is very unfortunate and does not bode well for the long term condition of the highway. The failing bonding material that has caused all the problems is used all the way along the road. So, realistically, it can only going to be a matter of time before the rest begins to deteriorate and we're back where we started.
"On top of all this is the question of how long the contractors will continue to turn out to make these repairs? I can't see this arrangement going on indefinitely and who is going to be responsible for picking up the tab then?"
Cllr Ridgway says:
"The whole situation is a right mess. The contract agreed by the council should have given them real control over the quality of the finished product. A huge amount of money was invested in this project and it currently doesn't look like money well spent"
