Almondbury Liberal Democrat Councillor Linda Wilkinson
A local bus service for Almondbury introduced last December is a great success.
The Metro Local service, which is part-funded by Kirklees Council's Huddersfield South Area Committee, has seen excellent feedback from residents and impressive passenger numbers.
It links Almondbury village and the Fernside estate to Morrisons, local shops and doctors' surgeries.
Now to celebrate its success, transport bosses have agreed to enhance the service to make it even more convenient. From late September, the bus will run every hour on Tuesdays and Fridays and will now take in Greenhead Lane, Bank End Lane, Greenside.
Almondbury Liberal Democrat Councillor Linda Wilkinson welcomed the improvements.
"The Metro Local service has been excellent at linking the Almondbury and Moldgreen communities to essential services and making it easier for people to get around. We have listened to residents' suggestions for improvements and incorporated them into the new service."
"The new service has been particularly welcome for older people and young mums who now find it much easier to visit the doctor's and local shops".
The service is free to those with concessionary passes and the fare for everyone else has been frozen at £1. The bus is 'hail and ride', meaning people can get on and off wherever it is safe for the driver to stop.
Leaflets showing details of the new route and timings will be available shortly and distributed to local residents. If anybody doesn't get one please contact Cllr Linda Wilkinson on 420130.
