£18K WORKS UNDERWAY IN MILNSBRIDGE
Works to improve the facilities at a developing community venue in Milnsbridge are well underway. The former YMCA building which is now owned and used by the United Church of the Healing Ministry - a charitable counselling service - is currently benefiting from £18,433 of investment from the Colne Valley Area Committee. The cash grant has been allocated to ensure the continued use of sporting amenities at the site for young people in the area. Work taking place at venue includes:
- The installation of floodlights
- The installation of a security barrier to the car park
- The installation of CCTV
- Sound proofing to the windows overlooking the sport area
- Introduction of a mesh covered walk way and new mesh on existing fencing
Cllr Robert Iredale (Lib Dem, Golcar Ward) says:
"The UCHM is very keen to play a community role in our area, providing counselling services to local people who need help whilst opening up the building and its facilities to the wider community."
"The multi use games pitch there has been used by local youngsters for many years. The money provided by the area committee to help fund improvements to the facilities and premise will help to make sure that this can continue. Sound proofing is going to be installed in parts of the building to prevent the noise made by young people playing carrying into the building and interrupting counselling sessions. And we've also agreed to install some security equipment to ensure that the area is monitored properly and to secure parts of the site. An additional £4,500 is also being made available to fund the delivery of sports sessions there which will be run by employees from the Council's Young People's Service."
"We're hoping that this investment will help to sustain a long and beneficial relationship with the UCHM on behalf of the local community".
