Cllr Wilkinson, Liberal Democrat, Almondbury Ward
Part of Lascelles Hall Road in Almondbury is going to be resurfaced.
Local Liberal Democrat Councillors have recommended that the road be dealt with this year following long standing complaints from local residents about its rapidly deteriorating surface.
But Councillors have had to pay for the works out of their minimal ward allocation for the financial year otherwise the road would have not received attention.
Cllr Linda Wilkinson says:
"We're clearly very pleased to let people know that the work is now going to be done. A petition was handed to the council ober 12 months ago now and people must have assumed that nothing was ever going to come from it. But sometimes the wheels move slowly in local government. And in the end we have had to spend part of the small pot of money we're allocated to deal with individual cases each year to get it sorted. Really we think that the road resurfacing should have been paid for using the council's central budgets but that wasn't the view taken by the cabinet. The road was in a shocking state and we couldn't leave it as it is any longer"
The section of the road that will be treated is between 72 and 118 Lascelles Hall Road. This part of the road has been identified as being most in need of repair.
The petition that was presented to the council in Nov 06 identifies the road as having potholes, patched up repairs and dangerous footpaths.
"Cllr Wilkinson says: "When the dates are set for the work, we'll make sure all the residents are informed and are clear on what will be happening."
