Cllr Andrew Marchington (Lib Dem, Golcar Ward)
Golcar Ward Councillors visited Cowlersley Estate on Wednesday morning with representatives from Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing and Cora Carter (MBE) from the estate's Tenants and Residents Association.
The group visited the Cowlersley estate to inspect the site as a whole looking into issues of general maintenance as well as some reports of damage having taken place in the area. Similar visits to estates across Golcar Ward are carried out by the Golcar Lib Dem Councillors every month throughout the year.
Cllr Andrew Marchington (Lib Dem, Golcar Ward) says:
"The estate walkabouts are an important part of our regular work in ward. It gives us an opportunity to go out into the estates with the council and the TRA and pin point issues that need to be addressed to make things better for our residents. It also gives us a chance to address problems raised by local people. For example, today we were looking into reports of some minor damage having taken place. It's an excellent way to get things done and we regularly have local people coming out to speak to us when they see us passing or standing in the street to let us know what they think. And this is something we really encourage. We want people to tell us how they want things to change. We want and need local people to be the driving force shaping the future of our areas and communities."
