A post box on Hill Top Slaithwaite has gone missing and local residents have turned to their local councillors to try and track it down.
The box disappeared from its traditional location at the junction of Hill Top and Bank Top about a fortnight ago and no one can find out where it has gone.
Cllr Turner (Lib Dem, Colne Valley Ward) says:
"Local residents haven't received any notification about plans to move the box and we're trying to find out where it has gone and if we're going to get it back".
"This box was well used as it is in a prime location by a public right of way leading to the train platform. Its removal doesn't seem to make sense and is causing inconvenience for many people. People keep on popping out to post a letter and find themselves faced with a blank space where the box used to be."
"We're trying to contact Royal Mail to ask them about their plans but getting through their automated telephone system is proving quite a challenge. The one time we did get through we were advised that the box had been collected from the previous day - but this was about 7 days after it had actually disappeared!"
"The Postmaster has been on leave recently and so we're waiting to speak to them to see if they can shed any light on this mystery. If anyone locally has managed to speak to an actual person at Royal Mail and knows what is going on, we'd like to hear from them so we can pass the information on to local people."
