Unkempt flower beds and planters in the centre of Almondbury are spoiling the whole look of the village. The untended flower beds and planters are on Northgate near the war memorial and bus terminus. This part of Almondbury is also a recognised conservation area.
Local Lib Dem Councillors Linda Wilkinson and Ann Denham want Kirklees to rectify the situation as soon as possible.
Cllr Wilkinson says:
"The current state of the flower beds and planters is awful; they're spoiling the whole look of the village. Some of the planters are full of fungi and the beds are full of weeds, it's just not up to scratch"
"This portion of the village is an established conservation area and it should be beginning to look its best at this time of year. Flowers and plants have been in the shops for quite some time now and I really would have expected the council to have competed this work already."
Cllr Denham added:
"It's important to local people and local businesses to have an attractive looking village centre. It makes people feel happy to live in and around the village whilst also encouraging them to use the local shops which is good for the local economy and the environment".
"We have made sure that extra money has been put into funding improvements in village centres like Almondbury. To give the council its due, we've not experienced these difficulties before but this year things seem to be taking an awfully long time".
