Rawthorpe & Dalton, Youth & Children, Activities & Leisure group (RADYCAL) is applying to Huddersfield South Area Committee to secure funding for their 08/09 programme of activities for children and young people in the Rawthorpe/Dalton area.

Rawthorpe & Dalton, Youth & Children, Activities & Leisure group (RADYCAL) is applying to Huddersfield South Area Committee to secure funding for their 08/09 programme of activities for children and young people in the Rawthorpe/Dalton area.

Established in April 2007, the group consists of 12 organisations (1) based or working in the Rawthorpe and Dalton area that join forces to deliver activities for local children and young people between the ages of 2-18 and their families and carers in safe, local and fun environments.

They are seeking to repeat the success of last years programme by providing 1500 sessions for children and young people between May 08 and 09.

Sessions in the past have included:

• Holiday play schemes for 2-8 year olds

• Football days

• Dance days

• Djing and karaoke sessions

• Go carting

• Toy car racing for the 13+ age group

• Photography sessions

• Visits to the theatre/pantomime

The organisation also runs English Language Summer Schools for the children of asylum seekers and refugees as well as arranging activities for harder to reach groups.

The group is seeking £13,000 for the Area Committee.

Cllr Roger Battye, Lib Dem Members in Dalton Ward and Chair of the Huddersfield South area Committee says:

"One of the chief complaints from parents and young people is the lack of things to do. By backing the RADYCAL programme and making sure that it is publicised properly we are helping to fill a vital gap in community life. The activities will get the kids off the streets whilst also offering a break to parents or carers who will be confident knowing their offspring are being well looked after and learning new skills and making new friends".

"RADYCAL has a fast growing reputation locally and a proven track record. The Area Committee must help keep this excellent organisation moving forward full steam. I will certainly be backing the proposal".

"One of the best things for parents is that RADYCAL try to make everything free of charge. And if there is a charge, they try to keep it an absolute minimum".

The committee will consider the application on Tuesday 15th April 2007 at the public meeting starting at 7pm at Brian Jackson House.
