Councillor Christine Stanfield is very pleased to learn the Lindley Special Care Unit has found new, modern, top quality accommodation for the day centre at Highfields.
Councillor Christine Stanfield is very pleased to learn the Lindley Special Care Unit has found new, modern, top quality accommodation for the day centre at Highfields.
The building to be vacated is immediately behind the derelict building Fieldhead on Lidget Street. The two properties together make a site large enough for a sheltered housing development.
Cllr Stanfield said: "We have very little sheltered housing in Lindley and there is a desperate need for more as the numbers of elderly people increase. When people get older, they don't want to leave the areas they have lived in all their lives. This is a perfect site in the middle of Lindley, close to all the services and on a good bus route.
I have talked to Officers on several occasions about the future of this site and I know that there are problems. If there is a will, problems can be overcome. I hope now there will be a real effort by the Council will find a suitable partner to develop a sheltered housing complex for the residents of this area."
