Councillor David Woodhead (Lib Dem, Colne Valley North ward)
Councillor David Woodhead (Lib Dem, Colne Valley North ward) is calling on Kirklees council to listen to a petition from Meltham residents calling for closure of the Hollow, in Meltham. The road has been troublesome for many years and residents believe it is time for it to be closed.
The residents are concerned that the redevelopment of Albion Mills will cause the traffic on the Hollow to increase and argue that the road should be closed on safety grounds.
The Hollow is a short lane running from Mill Moor Road to Golcar Brow Road and there are 25 residential properties along it, mostly concentrated at the Golcar Brow end. The road is often blocked with parked cars and is extremely hard to traverse being made up of a narrow bridge with, blind corners, difficult cambers and no pavements.
These conditions have resulted in many accidents over the years. Cllr Woodhead said: "This lane is typical of many in the Valleys - it was not built for the car. However, it is not an essential part of the highway network and alternative routes are available. I am therefore happy to support the residents in their campaign and would hope Kirklees council will listen to their request."
