Cllr John Smithson (Lib Dem, Almondbury Ward)
Councillor John Smithson has welcomed a decision made by the Huddersfield South Area Committee to invest £7000, with the possibility of increased funding, to improve a local footpath in Lepton.
The 87 metre path, currently made of broken stones and grass, runs along The Meadows directly to the Rowley Junior, Infant and Nursery School fields.
Following the Area Committee agreement, the path will now be fully rebuilt with a safe tarmac surface and lighting will be added for extra security. Councillor Smithson (Lib Dem, Almondbury Ward) said: "I am delighted this scheme was approved, as this footpath will improve access for local residents and make it easier for children to get to their school. Currently the footpath is in a very poor condition and difficult to walk on, especially after dark. I took this on following the work of former Cllr Sylvia Smithson and have been pressing for some time to get this dealt with. We hope residents will be pleased with the upgrade, which should happen early next year."
