Following a walk around Huddersfield's ring road by Councillor John Smithson (Lib Dem, Almondbury and chair of the Huddersfield Town Centre Sub Group), a number of areas were identified that needed smartening up and made to look more attractive.
Barrier planters will now be put in place along the ring road at Castlegate, Queensgate, near the new Media Centre and a couple at the end of New Street. This initiative comes in addition to the £100,000 secured, by Liberal Democrat councillors for plants and trees across Kirklees.
The planters will rest on the barriers along the ring road and come equipped with a spare liner enabling them to house summer and winter plants. Councillor Smithson said: "I am sure many residents and others using the ring road regularly will be pleased to see these improvements. It is important to make this area more attractive as it is one of the main ways visitors and tourists access Huddersfield, so to encourage them to come back we need to make a good impression. We are now putting this to the area committee in the hope that they will agree so that funding will be available for these to be in place by summer 2008"
