Liberal Democrat Councillors have secured £100,000 additional Council funding, to be spent on trees and plants across Kirklees
Liberal Democrat Councillors have secured £100,000 additional Council funding, to be spent on trees and plants across Kirklees. Under the scheme, extra money will be available for each ward to invest on landscaping improvements, to make areas more attractive for local residents.
Cllr John Smithson, Lib Dem Deputy Leader, said "Making our towns and villages look more attractive is very worthwhile both for local residents and visitors. It is an important contributor to the 'feel good factor' for the vast majority of people. I am delighted this scheme has now received approval from the Cabinet. In May we put forward an amendment to the Council budget, and secured the extra £100,000. Half of the money will be used for the main road approaches to our towns. The remaining £50,000 will be divided equally amongst the wards, allowing local councillors to address particular grot spots and improve the areas for residents.
"It is really important that we work to provide more funds for investment in schemes at a ward level, and I am pleased that the Cabinet saw sense and funded this Lib Dem proposal."
