Councillors have welcomed today's Cabinet decision to approve the Lib Dems' proposal to increase Council spending on road repairs by £3 million. The money, which will be spent over the next three years, will be targeted at improving the condition of residential roads. Some of the money will also be earmarked for road safety, such as 20mph zones in residential areas.
Cllr Ann Denham said "We proposed this £3 million boost for our roads in June, during discussions about the budget. I am delighted that the Cabinet have listened to our ideas, as the Lib Dems are very concerned that road conditions and safety should be more of a focus for the Council. We have problems on many residential roads, and the extra money we put forward will be a real help to those areas where roads are in poor condition.
"I am pleased the Cabinet have approved our idea, as the condition of our road network is a top priority for residents."
Final details of which roads will be targeted and when the schemes will start have yet to be agreed.
