Rogue traders and cold callers will soon get short shrift in Marsden, in the Colne Valley. Councillors on the Colne Valley Area Committee voted to spend £3,500 to introduce a 'no cold calling' zone in the village. The scheme will ensure that door-to-door callers touting for business will no longer be able to intimidate householders in the area. Any trader who breaches the regulations can be reported to Trading Standards.
Cllr Nicola turner, Lib Dem Councillor for Colne Valley Ward, said "The 'no cold calling' zone will be a real bonus for residents. Many people are tired of traders trying to drum up business on the doorstep. The cost of introducing the scheme is £1.50 per household, which pays for a pack for each household including window stickers and signs in the area warning traders not to call.
"The introduction of this scheme will send a clear message to rogue traders that they are not welcome in Marsden. We work hard to ensure that legitimate traders are aware of the changes, so that they do not fall foul of the rules by accident."
