Cleckheaton Councillor hails start of £5 million new school build
Work is due to start on the £5 million rebuild of Cleckheaton's Whitcliffe Road first school. The first phase of work, starting on 22nd October, will see road works completed to provide access to the new St. Peg Lane site before full-scale building works get under way.
Local Lib Dem Councillor for Cleckheaton Kath Pinnock said "I am delighted that work for the new school is finally getting underway. It is the beginning of making the dream come true for children and staff at Whitcliffe Road First School. The first step is getting the roads and access sorted out, to allow the building work to take place."
The planned road works will see a new access point into the school site, alterations to the stone wall and pavement to give better visibility and preparations for the planned pelican crossing. Following this, new traffic signals will be put in place next year, before the completed new school opens in January 2009.
