BOXING ACADEMY PLANS OPPOSED
Cllr Kath Pinnock has heavily criticised plans submitted by the Council for a "tin shed" on the site of the tennis courts in Royds Park at Rawfolds. The proposed building is to house a boxing club.
Cllr Kath Pinnock said, "I know the boxing academy is popular and needs new premises which I support. However, the proposal to build this tin shed on the tennis courts in Royds Park is a particularly crass one. The Spen Valley Area Committee has only recently supported a bid for funding to upgrade and improve the tennis courts so this application has come out of the blue.
The proposal is also unacceptable because it is so near to the bungalows and flat on New Street and Bradford Road that are specifically for older and disabled residents. The plans propose access on a service road from New Street that is currently only used by parks vehicles. The road is only 5 feet away from the flats! Residents also fear that they will be affected by the flood lighting that is part of the plans for the 20 space car park.
Kath Pinnock commented, "The boxing academy could be located over the road on land near the swimming pool where the effect on residents will be minimal and where other sporting facilities already exist.
I am appalled that Cllr Bates has served on the working group to develop these plans and has not once referred the matter to the Spen Valley Area Committee or thought it appropriate that local residents should be consulted. As Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Cllr Bates has sadly neglected the interests of local vulnerable and older residents."
