Cllr Robert Iredale (Lib Dem, Golcar Ward) says:
Re: Scouts
"Scouting is one of the best ways for young people to enjoy themselves, and hopefully in the future become even better citizens. The confidence building of our youth is very important to the Colne Valley Area Committee"
Re: Longwood mechanics
"We in the Area Committee are more than pleased to work with the Longwood Village Group and the hall management committee to bring back into full use this splendid building. Longwood Mechanics is possibly the oldest community premises in the area, long neglected, but thankfully now on the way back to full use thanks to the residents of Longwood".
Re: Supporting festive lights groups
"There is no Scrooge in the Area Committee. As well as putting up two large trees ourselves we are delighted to support all the village groups, in the past, this year, and in the future. We will work with any group to bring festive cheer to the Valley".
Re: New Signage
"We have some of the best facilities in the area, it is time that people who live here or go through the district know where to find them, I hope this helps"
Re: Demolition and redevelopment of toilets and bus shelter at Longwood gate Councillor Robert Iredale Liberal Democrat councillor proudly commented. "This is the result of several years work for me, my council colleagues and officers of Kirklees. This group of buildings will be demolished, and will be replaced with seating, pleasant greenery, and a village notice board. We hope that it will continue to enhance Longwood and be used by the residents/visitors to the village.
Re: Valley footpath improvements
"This is the start of our investment to shape the future for the Colne Valley as a whole. Well maintained and safe footpaths allow people to get out and about to enjoy their local area for pleasure but they also form an important local transport network which people need to be able to rely on to get to the shops & schools. They are important for users now and in the future so we are very pleased to be investing this money as the beginning of an ongoing programme.
"What was really wonderful about this particular Area Committee Meeting was that it was really well attended and that we were able to give money to many local groups and organisations to help support them in achieving their vision for the future of our area" concluded Cllr Robert Iredale.
