Warning sign deemed insufficient following spate of accidents
A group of residents living on Bank End Lane, Almondbury, have submitted a petition to Kirklees Council asking that the problem with speeding vehicles outside their homes be readdressed.
Cllr Ann Denham (Lib Dem, Almondbury Ward) presented the petition to council on their behalf on the 1.11.06.
Cllr Denham says "There has been a spate of accidents involving speeding traffic on Bank End Lane this year, 5 in total, which have mainly resulted in damage being caused to resident's garden walls. There have also been other similar accidents in previous years".
"Highways had already come forward offering to put up a warning sign on a dangerous bend but the residents aren't satisfied this would solve the problem."
"The majority of residents have signed the petition which goes to demonstrate there is a consensus amongst residents that highways proposal are not sufficient. And although residents have made it clear they don't necessarily want speed humps installed, they are pushing for highways to look again and come up with another suggestion".
"I would encourage anyone who has concerns but is not yet involved to get in touch".
