Leading Lib Dem, Cllrs Dennis Hullock (Lib Dem, Dewsbury East Ward), is going to tackle Tory leaders at this weeks Cabinet meeting over the administrations failure to reduce or even abolish car parking charges in Dewsbury - a promise made by the group before it took power last May.
LIB DEM TO TACKLE TORIES OVER PARKING CHARGES AT CABINET MEETING
"Ahead of last year's election in May, the Tories talked up this idea that they were going to reduce or even abolish car parking charges for shoppers in Dewsbury" says Cllrs Hullock "And as part of last years budget process 20K was allocated to carry out a revue of parking charges across Kirklees, including Dewsbury. Now they are in charge of the council, they seem to have forgotten this promise, spent the 20K to conduct a review and then left the charges untouched. I will be attending the Cabinet meeting on 6th December when increases to parking charges are to be decided. I will be demanding an answer to the question 'what happened to the revue of charges?".
"I was hoping reduced or free parking on market days and for the days running up to Christmas was going to be introduced as a result of the revue. I'm bitterly disappointed at what's happened'" says Cllr Hullock.
Cllr Naz Hussain says: "I want all the shoppers and businesses in Dewsbury to see how they have been let down. I am appalled by the situation. Introducing some flexibility on parking charges would have contributed excellently to the regeneration of the town centre. I am very disappointed".
