At the meeting of Kirklees Council on Wed 28th November, Cllr Margaret Fearnley (Lib Dem, Colne Valley Ward) will be asking the Conservative Portfolio holder responsible for Regeneration (Cllr Ken Sims) for assurances over the future of Slaithwaite Town Hall.
CLLR CALLS FOR ASSURANCES OVER FUTURE OF SLAITHWAITE TOWN HALL
It has been learnt that the Tory Administration has pulled £100,000 of funding previously earmarked to carry out essential maintenance works at the hall, which is still well used as an adult education centre despite the building being in urgent need of renovation.
"The heating system at the town hall has certainly seen better days" explains Cllr Fearnley "And it has now become necessary to use fan heaters in the rooms. This is the primary reason why the £100,000 was allocated to the town hall"
"I understand now that this much needed money has now been pulled while the Tory Group makes a "decision concerning the future of the building"" says Cllr Fearnley.
"This appalling decision will deny the people of Slaithwaite and beyond a decent and well used facility" says Cllr Nicola Turner "It is another blow to the valleys which have already begun to be starved of investment since the Tories took control of the council May last year".
