Meltham Moor Primary School
Local Councillor Marie Bower was delighted to receive an invitation to visit pupils at Meltham Moor Primary School as part of local Democracy week. The aims of Local Democracy Week are to make councils more relevant and useful to young people and to encourage young people to 'take part, take power'. Local Councillors are invited to get involved in citizenship teaching in schools.
"I was delighted to be invited to meet and work with pupils at Meltham Moor Primary School. I had a really lively discussion with the School Council. They told me of the work that they had been doing to improve facilities in the school such as improving the sports facilities and creating a woodland area. The pupils asked about my work as a Borough Councillor and I told them about the things I wanted to change and things that had happened on the Council" says Councillor Marie Bower.
"The young people told me that as part of their work they are going to go out and about to research the local area. I have agreed that if they want to change something or improve local facilities I will help them to get in touch with the right people at the Council. I am really looking forward to working with the young people and their teachers."
