A major scheme to refurbish the A653 Leeds Road at Shaw Cross from Albert Place to High Street is has been approved by Kirklees Council. The £360,000 scheme will start in February 2007 and be completed by June 2007.
A653 LEEDS ROAD
The works include re-kerbing and resurfacing of the pavements and the provision of bus boarder kerbs. The road surface will be reconstructed and at the same time problems such as water collecting on the highway will be dealt with.
The work, which will commence in February 2007, will last for approximately 20 weeks. It is hoped that most of the work can be carried out in off-peak periods to minimise disruption.
Cllr Dennis Hullock (Lib Dem, Dewsbury East Ward) has welcomed the investment: "I am please that the work will include changes that will make it easier for pedestrians to get about such as dropped crossings to help people in wheelchairs and mums with push chairs. I am concerned about disruption to parking arrangements for residents most of them park in the road outside their homes. A survey is being sent out to residents to ask them about parking arrangements, I would urge residents to make sure that they return them. I hope the contractors will be sympathetic to the needs of local people and work in a way that will not disrupt the lives of residents."
