  • Healey Community Centre and local Cllr invite residents' to give their views

Healey Community Centre is going to get a brand new toddler play area and multi use games area, as well as a designated area for dog walkers.

The Centre's Management Committee and Cllr Paul Battye (Lib Dem: Batley West) are inviting residents to come and view the plans for the first time at a consultation event being held at the centre on Tuesday 24th October 2006 between 4pm and 8pm.

Cllr Battye says: "We want to give residents a chance to see the plans on the 24th and I am keen to find out what they think".

Having earmarked £70,000 from the Area Committee for the development of the field next to the centre, Cllr Battye has been working with the Community Centre's Management Committee to help them draw up plans for the play area after residents identified that a safe place for local children and teenagers to play was a top priority amongst Healey's residents.

Cllr Battye says: "I am really pleased that the Centre's Management Committee, Kirklees Leisure Services and I have been able to work together to give the community something it really wants."

Cllr Battye and a representative of the Centre's Management Committee will be on hand on for the duration of the event on the 24th to take people's views.

Cllr Battye says: "I am hoping there will be a good turn out with plenty of parents bringing their children along to have a look. At the end of the day, the play area is for them, so their views are probably the most valuable really".

After the event on the 24th, residents' comments will be fed back to the Centre's Management Committee and the Council's Culture and Leisure Service to see if the plans need to be tweaked in any way. After that, Batley Area Committee will be asked to approve the plan. Earlier this year Cllr Battye got an agreement for £70,000 to be earmarked for the site and he is pleased that Leisure Services are willing to top this up with another £50,000 so that the scheme can be developed even further. Cllr Battye is hoping other Ward Cllrs in Batley West will support this important development in the Healey Area.
