Cllr Ann Raistrick (Lib Dem, Cleckheaton Ward) is calling on Kirklees Council to install barriers at the Brookfield Avenue - Old Popplewell Lane footpath in Scholes to protect it from further damage by motorbikes and horse riders.
Cllr Raistrick says: "Horse riders and motorbikes have being using the footpath illegally for some time. This has caused some significant damage and local residents have asked that I get something done to stop it happening".
Cllr Raistrick says: "Our local path network is important and needs to be looked after so that people can rely on it as a way to get around their area."
CLLR CALLS FOR BARRIERS AT LOCAL PATH
Cllr Raistrick says: "There is also an important safety issue here. The path is actually quite narrow in places and the presence of someone on horseback or a motorcycle moving at speed would pose a threat to someone out on a walk."
Cllr Raistrick concludes: "I have spoken to the council and they have said that they will look into installing custom made barriers at both entrances on the path which will keep out horses and motorbikes but allow access to people with pushchairs wanting to get to the local school".
