Cllr Kath Pinnock has said that the statement made by the Conservative Chairman of the Local Government Association about ethnic quotas in schools is ill-judged and ill-though out.
Cllr Pinnock says: "The decision of the Conservative Chairman of the Local Government Association, Lord Bruce-Lockhart to announce that state schools should introduce ethnic quota into admissions criteria to breakdown segregation in schools is ill-judged and an ill thought out plan. This will not end segregation but lead to greater divisions just like the ill thought out plan to close schools and join them up into Academies."
"I would like to see the introduction of twinning arrangements where schools take part in art and leisure activities so that the children get to know each other. To force people through the introduction of quotas or academies will not work in Kirklees."
