Councillors Christine Stanfield and Tony Woodhead (Liberal Democrats, Lindley Ward) are campaigning for better recreational equipment for the young people of Lindley.
They have asked the Area Committee for funds to provide 'ball walls' in five areas where there is little or no equipment for 12 - 15 year olds. Residents, including young people, are being consulted about the equipment which is planned for Oakes, Hayfield Avenue, Roman Close, Goldington Avenue and Ainley Top.
Cllr Stanfield said, "Kicking footballs against houses always upsets people, its far better to give these young people a place to go where they can have a good kick about without annoying the neighbours".
Cllr Woodhead added, "The play areas will have a hard surface which will prevent a muddy puddle developing in front of the goal. And with the world cup this summer, we expect a lot of interest from youngsters. After the success of the Ashes, some stumps could prove a good summer alternative!"
"As the Liberal Democrat councillors in Lindley Ward we are determined to provide the best play areas for all the young people in the area - the tots have super playgrounds, its about time the slightly older children got a look in" said Cllr Stanfield.
