Cllr Paul Battye (Lib Dem, Batley West) is making a "Green appeal" to residents in Batley, Birstall and Birkenshaw.
He wants residents to contact him with their ideas to improve the environment.
Cllr Battye says, "Over the last few years we have seen an increase in effort put in by both the Cabinet and the Area Committee to tackle environmental issues. I put forward the proposal for the Rapid Response Team which was approved by the committee and now tackles Batley's "grot spots". In addition to this we now have our own CCTV for fly tipping, another proposal which was put forward after I had discussed concerns with local residents. The council is also currently trialling Area Committee Rangers who carry out daily patrols in the seven committee areas to identify and proactively deal with a wide variety of locally based environmental problems."
Area Committee money has also been spent recently to support local residents who wanted to carry out work in Jessop Park, which is now much improved, with more improvements in the pipeline. Because local residents worked with the support of Councillor Battye they were able to pull together Council Services, the Probation Service and Environment Concern to work more effectively on improvements that include new path surfaces, new railings on the steps and the rebuilding of the wall on Healey Lane.
Cllr Battye concluded, "There is plenty of money in the Area Committee pot to allow its members to consider funding more environmental works and schemes. People sometimes claim that their ideas aren't taken seriously or that no one is willing to listen, so I hope that residents won't pass up this chance to improve their area. Whether people live in Batley, Birstall, Birkenshaw or East Bierley, they can all have their say about what they feel could be done to improve their local environment."
Cllr Paul Battye (Lib Dem, Batley West Ward) invites residents to submit their suggestions to him as Cllr Paul Battye, FREEPOST, HF 2401, Huddersfield, HD5 0BR.
