Kirklees Council's Culture and Leisure Service has completed improvement works at Batley Memorial Park in response to requests from members of the British Legion and Royal Air Force Association (RAFA).
The £9,000 investment paid for repairs to the cenotaph and for new tarmac to be laid on all of the paths running within the Memorial Park grounds.
Cllr Geoff Alvy, Liberal Democrat, Batley West Ward says: "It is only right that public money is invested to keep the Memorial Park grounds up to the expected standard of repair, especially considering that the 60th anniversary of the end of the second world war took place in July of this year. This is a timely expenditure to ensure that the appearance of the Memorial Park reflects the local community's gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives for future generations."
Cllr Paul Battye, Liberal Democrat, Batley West Ward says: "The Council has a responsibility to respond to the wants and needs of the local community. A number of local residents have spoken to me about the Memorial Grounds in the past, echoing the suggestions of the British legion and RAFA, so both myself I and my fellow Ward Councillor Geoff Alvy are delighted that this package of works was agreed."
