Liberal Democrat Councillors have launched a petition to reject plans to move the surgical, gynaecology, children's and maternity wards services Huddersfield Royal Infirmary to Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax.Councillor Stanfield says "We are really angry that parents of sick children will be expected to travel all the way to Halifax. It is bad enough that your child is ill without having to worry about the bus timetable. Councillor Iredale says "The announcement today about the threat to the cancer clinic being moved has spurred us on. Breast cancer is a horrendous illness. Women should be able to be treated here in Huddersfield. The news about the hospital services in Huddersfield is going from bad to worse."
Councillor Tony Woodhead says "We have had hundreds of people get in touch about these proposals. People are really cross that they are being expected to take cuts in services to pay for the "white elephant" of Calderdale Royal Hospital. If people call Jim Rim O'Reilly on 01484 312721 they can have copies of the petition to collect signatures from their friends and neighbours. We must stop this proposal which is bad for Huddersfield.
We want residents to make their voices heard and participate in consultation meetings and by writing to Freepost RLTG-HYAB-BHXZ, Calderdale PCT, F Mill, Dean Clough Office Park, HALIFAX HX3 5AX.
